We would like to publish the excellent statement by the Green Party on NewcastleGateshead Core Strategy Examination and Transport Policy. The strategy sets the vision for our city and region for decades to come. The Green Party's reply sits snugly with our views. We thank the Green Party for these astute observations, to make public these salient points about the councils' plan on rampant road building and how it will impact on everyone. Or like Lewis Mumford would say: adding highway lanes to reduce traffic congestion is like loosening your belt to cure obesity.
If you were put out by the 300+ page document, but were prepared to read something, here it was: Cycling pp138-141, attached below.

OUR RESPONSE TO THE CORE STRATEGY AND URBAN CORE AREA ACTION PLAN
We want to keep this short as we have also commented previously.
Newcastle City Council are making ill plans for the future of transport. Please take the time to ACTION! object to their LDF Core strategy by 4 January 2012.
We have prepared a draft objection for you: draft letter attached below.
We have written to relevant officers to seek clarification on the 1CORE (now LDF) process and methodology, attached below. There's some serious green belt sprawling proposed which warrants more justification and proof than currently provided.
Why is this important to the Newcastle Cycling Campaign? We are an interest group concerned with transport, infrastructure, active travel, and its relation to public space and provision of local services.
Our response to the Urban Core Area Action Plan or UCAAP, attached below.
Read our 1CORE consultation response, attached below. Receipt was not acknowledged by council officers. It seems a right shambles.
